Kaitlyn Gilley adopted her best friend, Shadow, from a rescue in 2016.
"I'm grateful for her because she has taught me more than anyone, and she can't even talk," Gilley said.
Gilley now has a special place in her heart for rescue dogs and wanted to help them this Christmas, especially since she isn't able to foster or adopt any dogs right now.
And since Shadow's favorite place is the house is cuddled up in bed with a blanket over her, Gilley thought other rescue dogs would like a blanket.
"I thought maybe that would be an item of comfort for dogs who don't have a human to snuggle up to just yet," Gilley said.
Last year, Gilley started a blanket drive called Cozy for Christmas. She buys and collects new and gently used blankets.
"All the blankets are going to dogs who are looking for a forever, permanent family," she said.
She divides the blankets between different rescues and shelters in the Salt Lake Valley.
"The fact that she wants to give back and reward the place that gave her her best friend, as well as other places like that, is amazing," said Robyn Carlson, owner of Kudos 2 Canines.
Carlson works closely with rescue dogs at her training facility, Kudos 2 Canines. And she has a Cozy for Christmas collection box in the lobby.
She knows the blankets will help.
"Sometimes that's the difference between a dog that's having a really, really bad day and a dog that is ready to cuddle up and find somebody new to love," Carlson said.
Last year, Gilley and Shadow collected and purchases 200 blankets.
"I would like to beat last year," Gilley said.
Mountain America Credit Union donated $500 to help her beat that goal.
