The Pier 1 Imports on Woodward Avenue in Royal Oak is among an estimated 450 stores closing as the Texas-based home goods retailer announced it would cut its locations by half after reporting dismal third-quarter financial results.
A large 'store closing' sign hangs in the window facing Woodward Avenue.
A call to the Royal Oak store was referred to corporate media relations, which did not immediately respond to emails requesting comment.
It's unconfirmed whether other Pier 1 stores in metro Detroit or the state are closing.
The Royal Oak Pier 1, with its two stories and basement of home goods, furniture and other merchandise, was once a flagship store for the chain. It is currently running a sale.
